Things to do in and around Port Yasmine, Hammamet
Citrus Golf Club
There are multiple golf clubs near the marina, but Citrus is widely considered to be the best, not only in the area but in the whole country. Housing two challenging 18-hole courses, this club also has a nine-hole short course. You’ll need proof of handicap to play here - and doing so is well worth it.
If you prefer to relax in the water as opposed to dry land, don’t miss Hammamet’s various diving schools. For beginners and those looking to improve their skills, there are certification courses on offer in the local open-water diving centres, while the more experienced diver can explore World War II wrecks below the waterline.
Hammamet is a fantastic beach destination. For the very best stretches, head north-west of the medina. Alternatively, if you fancy a quieter environment, head out beyond Port Yasmine to explore near-deserted, almost wild stretches of sand.
If nightlife is something you’re looking for in Tunisia, Hammamet is the place to come to. You’ll find the best bars and clubs in Hammamet Sud, which is particularly lively (as you’d expect) on Friday and Saturday nights, when doors typically open around 10pm and stay open until dawn.
Hammamet also has plenty to offer in terms of cultural attractions - especially if you’re interested in history. For instance, the medina, with its two-metre thick wall, dates back to the 15th century. Just under 7 km outside of the town centre, meanwhile, is the Roman site of Pupput, which houses some impressive mosaics and much more.
Also well worth a visit is the city of Monastir. Located on the coast, it has a great history that’s easily discovered while you explore thanks to its well-preserved buildings. Founded on the ruins of the ancient city of Ruspina, it is particularly well-known for its old Ribat or fort, which is a real highlight of any trip here and was the film location for the iconic Monty Python film - Life of Brian.
